OUR STORY

About Us

We get asked a lot about our name and how this whole thing started, so we thought we’d share our story and tell you a little about us.

We are Ventura Builders Group, and to those who know us – we’re Pete & Miranda. We have four kids, and the best good girl there ever was, our dog Marley 🐕

We love flipping houses. Miranda has a real estate background, and Pete was in logistics but always had an itch for real estate. We started with one house at a time. Then it became no more than 3 at a time. Then we grew more and with the most incredible team of people, we earned your respect with our work.

We bought the old Fidelity Bank building, our first commercial property, at the time not even knowing exactly what we were going to turn it into. We just knew we had to save this incredible corner building and bring it back to life. So at the end of the day, a banquet hall was perfect, like it was always meant to be.

Then there was Birdie’s. We looked at this building a few times, and it went through different realtors, all pushing VBG to do something with this ugly but absolute golden corner spot building. We decided to pull the trigger on this property, as well as the home next door. We put our VBG sign up and as soon as we did, the social media started flooding! Everybody was excited and trusted we were going to make it beautiful. But what we were going to do, we weren’t exactly sure. We thought of renovating into houses. Making it fully residential (how boring!), tearing it down, leveling and building something completely different. We always think to ourselves when doing any project – what would WE want? If we lived here, what would we want it to be like? We put a coffee shop on the table. Oh my gosh, we can’t do that. We don’t know how to run a shop. We’re construction, not the food industry… it got moved aside, not taken off the table, but moved aside.

Months go by and we know people were thinking we were being coy or sneaky with not telling our plans, but we honestly were still figuring out what we wanted to do. Ultimately, we wanted to give this community something amazing – somewhere they can feel comfortable, and safe, run into family, or meet up with friends. A space where they can study, work, get some fresh air, or just get out of the house… We are now jealous that we don’t live in Norwood.

Now for the name. Our name, Birdie’s, is a tribute to Miranda’s Grandfather. He had bird tattoos on his chest with his & her grandmother’s name. She always loved the idea of his “lovebird” tattoos. While looking for some inspiration through old family photos, we pulled out a picture of him and said, this is it.

So, from our family – we want to welcome you to our coffee shop. We hope you love it as much as we do.
